Since 1987, we have operated a sleep laboratory in our house with currently more than 19 measurement places. The patients are supervised by our employees day and night. Using state-of-the-art technology we are in the position to diagnose and treat diseases of breathing during sleep.

We are one of the largest and mostexperienced sleep laboratories in Germany.

The focus of our interest is especially placed on diseases which disturb the sleep in many different ways:

  • Obstructive or central sleep apnoea
  • Restless legs syndrome
  • Periodic breathing
  • Cheyne-Stokes breathing
  • Chronic respiratory and ventilatory insufficiency
  • Obesitas hypoventilation syndrome

Frequent sleep apnoea (respiratory arrest) in patients with healthy lungs is often accompanied by loud snoring and fatigue during the day. It is caused by obstruction, or closure, of the breathing in the area of the pharynx. It is possible to help almost all of these patients to a large extent.

Hypoventilation (fl at breathing) in patients with lung diseases often occurs owing to advanced chronic bronchitis, lung emphysemas, considerable excess weight, condition after tuberculosis or paralytic diseases. These patients can be helped in the long-term through respiration at home.

Sleeplessness which is described as insomnia, triggered off through increased leg or arm movements during the night, can be treated well using a therapy with medication.

Depending on the clinical picture, the breathing dysfunctions are treated with medication, with oxygen, or with small state-of-the-art respiratory devices. After mostly just a few days/nights of acclimatisation, our patients can borrow a respiratory device for several weeks. They can then gain further experience at home before it is finally prescribed.
